Copyediting & Proofreading
Copyediting & Proofreading
In my editorial work, I have two distinct areas of interest.
- Theology and spirituality, both popular and academic. Among traditional publishers, my client list includes Liturgical Press, Paulist Press, Orbis Books, Ave Maria Press, Twenty-third Publications, Novalis Books, and more. I have worked with theologians, pastors, professionals in pastoral ministry, educators, catechists, poets, and memoirists. (I am also interested in other humanities-related nonfiction fields, such as history, literature, and government. I am currently seeking to expand my work further into these fields.)
- In fiction: horror, thriller, and science fiction. (No fantasy or romance please.) I am interesting in working on both novels and short stories. I love the fiction of Blake Crouch, Thomas Harris, Joe Hill, Greg Iles, Stephen King, Nancy Kress, Cherie Priest, Scott Smith, Zoje Stage, and Paul Tremblay.
I can provide editing on either or both levels:
Developmental editing: big picture stuff, a review of the overall work, paying attention to content, themes, structure -- with fiction, character, setting, plot, etc. -- and more, with an eye toward revision of any of these elements or considering new directions.
Copyediting: improving accuracy, clarity, consistency, and elegance of expression, sometimes more substantive improvement of (the author's) style and voice, while correcting grammar or spelling errors and similar flaws.
I work in Microsoft Word, using its "Track Changes" feature, so you see exactly what I've done and the difference it makes.
Oh, and I have discovered that I love indexing. Send that work my way, and you'll be pleased with what you get.
